Surf, Coastline & Blue Economy: Towards a National Label “Surf Cities and Villages of Morocco”

Powered by the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM)
Friday, October 24, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm

The roundtable “Surf Cities and Villages Morocco” builds on the work initiated during Taghazout Surf Expo 2024, which led to the creation of a steering committee (COPIL) bringing together key players from the surf industry, tourism, local authorities, civil society, and academia.
The 2025 edition marks a decisive step: it aims to formalize the governance of the future label and define its first operational foundations in terms of framework, pilot sites, and support mechanisms. This initiative is fully aligned with Morocco’s national priorities under the Blue Economy program, with the ambition to strengthen the visibility, sustainability, and competitiveness of Morocco’s surf destinations.
Through this process, the label seeks to unite coastal municipalities and their partners around a shared vision, ensure higher standards in site management and visitor experience, and position Morocco as an international benchmark for sustainable surf tourism.

With the researchers:

  • Stéphanie CRABECK, HEPH Condorcet (Belgium), ULYSSE Lab-network, Taghazout Surf Expo
  • Mokhtar EL MAHOUAL, Ibn Zohr University (Morocco)
  • Nawal BENABDALLAH & Oussama ALAMI MARROUNI, International University of Rabat
  • John VAN DEN PLAS, EPHEC (Belgium), ULYSSE Lab-network
  • Christophe GUIBERT, University of Angers (France)
Speed Meeting

The roundtable will be followed by a speed meeting between accommodation providers and tour operators. This professional networking event will bring together the invited international tour operators and more than 30 regional accommodation providers specialized in surf tourism.
The format is designed to create a direct meeting space between supply and demand: on one side, operators looking for new destinations and reliable partners; on the other, accommodation providers with recognized expertise in surf, yoga, and hosting digital nomads.

Each session will give accommodation providers a few minutes to present their establishments, services, and strengths, followed by exchanges with tour operators on potential collaboration opportunities.
The aim of this initiative is to act as a partnership accelerator, to highlight the richness and diversity of the local offer, and to contribute to the international visibility of the Souss Massa region as a global surf hub.
